Artery / Vein Doppler
Artery & Vein Doppler studies are done to assess the lumen & the blood flow in them.
Arterial Doppler StudieserTh
Arteries (with the exeception of Pulmonary artery) carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the different areas of the body.
There are various conditions where there may be dilatation or blockages in the arteries either due to cholesterol or blood clot. This can be diagnosed by doppler ultrasound studies of the arteries.
Diabetes, Hypertension, Smoking, Dyslipidemias, Connective Tissue Disorders are some of the common conditions which can lead to the above situations.
The symptoms include feeling of pain on exertion in the affected limb, reduced temperature in the limb, bluish discolouration of the limb. An important complication of acute obstruction of the artery is gangrene which if not treated early & appropriately can lead to amputaion/loss of limb and even death.
Venous Doppler Study
Veins (with the exeception of Pulmonary veins) carry deoxygenated blood from the different areas of the body to the heart.
There can be thrombosis of the veins(causing blockages) or leakages of the valves reasponsible for unidirectional flow (causing dilatation of the veins).
Thrombosis of the veins can occur im many conditions
